Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement moves forward

Participants in the ACTA negotiations have released a joint statement announcing plans to reach a final agreement in 2010 and committing to information disclosure on the progress of ACTA. Participants have been accused of not providing transparency.

United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk said his government will continue its efforts to ensure that the public is well-informed about the negotiations.

While it has released a summary of issues under negotiation and established a dedicated ACTA page on its website, the USTR is still lacking substantial disclosure of ACTA negotiation documents, according to some observers

According to Kirk, the USTR will maintain its "open-door" policy toward all stakeholders, and will hold "town hall" meetings to engage with members of the public.
