U.S. House passes extension of trade preferences

The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation (H.R. 4284) to extend until December 31, 2010 the expiring Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the Andean Trade Preferences Act (ATPA) trade preference programs. Based on the debate of the bill, it appears that the House intends to consider GSP and other trade preference reform in 2010.

The bill now moves to the Senate where it may be considered before the Christmas recess.
