Forensic Psychiatry

Forensic Psychiatrists provide evaluations and opinions of mental illness and criminality, civil competency, disability, and psychological damage. As expert witnesses, the forensic psychiatrists profiled in this directory may consult on matters of civil and criminal malingering and misattribution, disability and worker’s compensation, workplace violence, discrimination and harassment, and diminished capacity due to neuropsychiatric disorders (eg.: major mental illness, drug addiction, brain injury). These experts may also provide evaluations in civil competency, and family issues of divorce, custody, and testamentary capacity (eg: to make wills, dispose of property, refuse medical treatment) and psychiatric services in prisons and jails. These psychiatrists may provide forensic evaluations in matters such as criminal competency to stand trial and mental state at the time of the offence, settled insanity and wrongful commitment, sentencing recommendations, treatment recommendations, and risk assessments.
