Cytopathology
Cytopathology expert witnesses provide opinions on alleged malpractice, including deviations from diagnostic standards, errors in anatomic reports, misdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis and communication errors.
The Cytopathologists listed in this directory may opine, for example, on matters related to breast fine‐needle aspirations (BFNAs), cervical (Pap) smears and other tests examining cells extracted from tissues to determine the cause and nature of a disease, such as bronchoscopy and cystoscopy tests (e.g., the Papanicolaou test [a.k.a Pap test]).
These specially trained pathologist physicians may testify as to specific diagnostic error rates in the identification of cells that pose potential danger to a patient (eg: pre-cancerous, cancerous or infected cells). They may also testify regarding the standards in reviewing and interpreting the results of cytopathology tests.
