Forensic Linguistics expert witnesses provide opinions on the clarity or ambiguity of documents, authorship attribution, voice identification and accent discrimination, including matters involving trademarks, intellectual property and defamation, disputed confessions.
These forensic linguists may interpret the expressed meaning in laws and legal writings, interpret the intended meaning of oral and written statements (eg: wills, confessions, and interpretation and translation in matters involving more than one language.
These expert witnesses in linguistics may also provide opinions on standard methodologies, including “linguistic fingerprints” (a collection of linguistic markers) and the probable accuracy of forensic linguists’ opinions based on the size of speech or text samples.
