Mr. Alan Black performs forensic engineering of accidents and assessments of existing conditions to evaluate product deficiencies, process problems and human error. Alan has been performing forensic engineering since 2007 and as adbForensics, Inc. since 2015.
He has been engaged to evaluate accidents involving theme park rides, water slides, athletic entertainment venues such as trampolines and ziplines, home health equipment, marine, and aircraft systems and accidents where weather, human vision and visibility are contributing factors. Example cases also include juvenile assault, CO poisoning, construction equipment, and safety analyses of marine industrial operations.
Prior to forensic engineering, Alan spent 18 years working as a Principal Engineer and Director for both Walt Disney Imagineering and Universal Creative dealing with the advanced design of ride, show and stunt equipment for theme parks and resorts worldwide and 6 years developing Head-Up, Head-Down and Helmet-Mounted displays for the high stress environment of the fighter aircraft cockpit for the Advanced Systems group of Kaiser Aerospace.
In addition to his engineering degrees, he is an Air Force trained electronic technician, an FAA certified flight instructor, and a volunteer services provider with the FAA's Safety Team (FAAST). Alan also flew medical missions in Mexico for 20 years with Liga International, The Flying Doctors of Mercy and presently flies with Angel Flight, a volunteer service transporting medical patients and supplies.
His international experience includes system integration and flight testing in Taiwan and Toulouse; theme park development in Paris, Tokyo and Osaka; and working with vendors in Germany, England, and The Netherlands.
In his spare time, Alan studies the neuropsychology of human performance, behavior and belief systems and is designing a sustainable net-zero house.
