Ashok Kakade, PE — Concrete Science, Inc.

Mr. Kakade has over 35 years of experience in construction, investigation, and rehabilitation of concrete structures. He has taught a Concrete Technology course at the University of California Berkeley and University of California Davis Engineering Extension.  Mr. Kakade has testified in court as an expert.

Mr. Kakade has constructed reinforced concrete multi-story buildings, masonry and concrete retaining walls, foundations, stucco, concrete and asphalt pavements.  He has investigated residential foundations, marine structures, commercial and industrial slabs, high rise buildings, parking structures, tunnel, dams and others.  His work determined the causes of distress to concrete structures and designed repairs. Mr. Kakade has worked on projects having distresses  due to corrosion of metal in concrete, sulfates, cracking, floor covering failures, moisture emission related distresses in slab-on-grade, alkali-aggregate reactivity, sand pockets and other construction related defects in concrete structures.  Mr. Kakade was trained in Germany in the use of sealants, waterproofing compounds, epoxy, polyurethane and modified cementitious repair materials. He has designed and performed advanced repairs to concrete structure.  Mr. Kakade has assisted owners in monitoring repairs to concrete structures.

Mr. Kakade has studied the impact-echo test method at CornellUniversity and uses this and other nondestructive techniques to identify defects in concrete structures.  Mr. Kakade has conducted corrosion and chloride content tests, and other tests on hardened regular weight, light weight and roller compacted concrete structures.  Mr. Kakade conducted experimental research on cathodic protection systems used to prevent corrosion in reinforced concrete structures.
