Bruce C. Puryear, MD

I am the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Honor Health-Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. Litigation support and legal consulting opportunities have enabled me to work with attorneys representing defendants and plaintiffs since 1998. During that time, I have reviewed more than 60 cases, written a number of expert opinions, prepared affidavits, testified in several depositions and one trial. In recent years, I have written expert opinions or given depositions for cases involving patient injuries related to operating room fires, central line complications, and airway trauma during intubation as well as other areas in the field of anesthesiology. My position as Chairman has enabled to me initiate and collaboratively develop a number of hospital policies and procedures, including: “Sedation by Non-Anesthesiologists,” “Modification of Do Not Resuscitate Orders in the Peri-Operative Period”, “Operating Room Fire Safety,” and “Non-Beating Heart Organ Donation.” Early in my career, I served as Attending Cardiovascular Anesthesiologist at the Texas Heart Institute and Texas Children’s Hospital. I maintain an active practice in the areas of thoracic, major vascular, trauma, electrophysiology, and general anesthesiology. I have a medical licenses in Arizona and Texas, an inactive license in Virginia, and have allowed my prior licensure in Colorado to lapse. My work as a litigation consultant and expert witness contributes to my advocacy for and dedication to excellence in clinical care, patient protection, and best practice implementation for physicians.
