Christopher K. Wilson

I spent the last 38 years developing systems of advanced sensors and algorithms with the last 30 years focused on automotive applications for safety and automation.  I also provide expert witness services for the last 9 years.

I have deep technical expertise in the various sensors used in advanced automotive systems, in particular cameras, radar, lidar and driver sensors, and how systems from multiple vehicles can be combined (using communications and positioning technologies) to understand both the transportation system (traffic, congestion and accidents) and how individual drivers and vehicles compare to others (usage based insurance, fleet telematics, remote diagnostics and OTA updating).

In addition to developing many modern vehicle safety systems, I am also trained in accident reconstruction (ACTAR #3846) and have a deep understanding of how modern systems can both avoid and contribute to accidents.

In my technical career I spent 10 years as a systems engineer at TRW developing telematics and navigation systems with automatic collision notification capabilities.  I worked with all aspects of the crash problem including detection (airbag sensors), assessment (biomechanics), notification (automatic connections to 911 system), and response coordination.   

I spent 12 years at Mercedes Benz Research where I was VP of Telematics and Safety.  I worked with other car companies, government and industry to improve the safety and efficiency of the transportation system, leading the effort to bring short range communication technologies to vehicles and connect vehicles and infrastructure.

I also spent 4 years at TomTom as Director of ADAS programs working on map based safety systems.  In addition, I have been involved in 4 startups in the automotive field, most recently as CEO of Vehicle Data Science Inc.
