Dr. Gardner was formerly Medical Director of NeuroCare's post-acute residential and community-based brain injury rehabilitation programs in Ramona and San Diego, California. He has also consulted with other brain injury rehabilitation and residential programs. He was Editor, Brain Injury Medication Update email newsletter and Associate Editor, Brain Injury Update newsletter.
For many years, Dr. Gardner was a psychiatric consultant at Sharp Memorial Hospital and Sharp Rehabilitation Center, where he focused on the psychological aspects of acute and chronic physical illness, as well as physical disabilities including traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury.
Dr. Gardner graduated from the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University Medical School.
He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association; Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Psychiatry, UCSD School of Medicine; Faculty and Executive Committee member, San Diego Psychoanalytic Center; and former Council member, San Diego Psychiatric Society. He has been selected by his physician peers as one of the Top Doctors in San Diego.
