Douglas Baumgarten has been serving as an expert and litigation consultant for twenty years, for both plaintiffs and defendants. He has experience in over 210 cases dealing with fitness, health clubs, sports, and related issues. He has testified in federal, state, and criminal courts.
Mr. Baumgarten graduated from Harvard University (B.A. Anthropology) in 1977 and California Univ. of Pennsylvania (M.S. Exercise Science) in 2005. In addition, he has achieved the highest level of certification (Health/Fitness Director) of the American College of Sports Medicine. Other certifications include National Academy of Sports Medicine (Performance Enhancement Specialist), American Academy of Health-Fitness Professionals (Medical Exercise Specialist), USA Cycling (Cycling Coach), and International Bike Fitting Institute (Bike Fitter Level 3). Mr. Baumgarten has also worked as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Marymount University, and as Head Coach of Triathlon for Marymount. Mr. Baumgarten has over 40 years of work and management experience in health clubs, personal fitness training, exercise equipment design, gym design, facility management, staff supervision, etc. In sports, he has been a competing squash racquets professional, a lifelong baseball player, fastpitch softball official (17 years), sports coach, avid cyclist and triathlete. He currently owns and manages Sportfit Consulting, a sports performance consulting business.
