Gary Tamkin is an accomplished senior emergency medical physician with more than 30 years of success within emergency medical devices, rescue and ambulatory services, healthcare staffing, and law enforcement. He has worked extensively with attorneys, law firms and insurance companies as an expert witness or mediator for malpractice matters. 

Gary is affiliated with US Acute Care Solutions Inc., in Canton Ohio where he serves as Vice President of Provider Development. Gary is a member of the senior executive leadership team helping to oversee 500 emergency departments and 5000 providers.  He  practices clinically at a large community emergency department.

Gary is an Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine(Volunteer) with the University of California, San Francisco. He accepted this position in 2011, following on from his prior role as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine. Gary teaches and instructs medical students and residents, and he lectures to schools and national conferences on a regular basis.

Concurrently, Gary is serving as Medical Director of the California Highway Patrol in Sacramento. He holds medical oversight for 7000 California Highway Patrol Officers across health, behavioral and stress-related issues. Gary has developed this role and expanded tactical medicine training to empower officers to care for themselves in the line of fire. He also assisted in the development of a program to teach officers how to recognize drug ingestion and he manages the California Highway Patrol Paramedics Program.

As a fully operational member of the Merced County Sheriff's Office Regional SWAT Team, holding the position of SWAT Physician in conjunction with his two other roles, Gary oversees all medical care provided to officers including tactical first aid training, and advisory on fitness for duty and personal wellness issues.

From 2001 to 2006, Gary held the title of Bay Area Medical Director with American Medical Response in Livermore, CA, the largest provider of ambulatory services in the country. He was responsible for the medical care and oversight of the organization's paramedics, spanning multiple counties including Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco.

Gary completed his residency at the Department of Emergency Medicine, Highland General Hospital, University of California, San Francisco from 1992 to 1996. Over this period, he served as Secretary and Treasurer of the California Emergency Medicine Resident's Association (1993-1994), President of the California Emergency Medicine Resident's Association (1994-1995), and Chief Resident (1995-1996).

Named as President of the American College of Emergency Physicians, California Chapter from 2002 to 2003, Gary held numerous other positions with the organization including Director, Treasurer, and President Elect.

In 2006, Gary was awarded the Walter T Edwards Memorial Award by the American College of Emergency Physicians, the highest award by state chapter for meritorious service. He was presented with the Senior Humanitarian Award for Outstanding Senior at the University of California in 1992.

Gary graduated from the Irvine College of Medicine, University of California with an MD (with honors) in 1992, he received his BA in Community Health (with honors) from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1986.
