Gerry is a professional Aquatics Safety Water Rescue Consultant for Lifesaving Resources, a private company dedicated to drowning and aquatic injury prevention and emergency management. Gerry develops educational curriculums in Aquatics Safety; Lifeguard Training and Operations; Water Rescue; Swiftwater Rescue; Ocean Rescue; and Ice Rescue, and conducts this training throughout the United States, as well as Internationally, for the Public Safety and Rescue, as well as the Lifeguard and Aquatic Recreation Sectors. Gerry has written and published over 40 articles and has appeared as a subject matter expert on national media broadcasts including CNN; MSNBC News; ABC's Good Morning America; NBC's Today Show; CBS' Early Show; The Weather Channel; The Discovery Channel; The History Channel; and Fire Emergency Training Network. Gerry has over 40 years experience as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician and is currently a Firefighter for the Kennebunkport (Maine) Fire Department and also as an EMT for Kennebunkport Emergency Medical Services. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, the Southern New Hampshire Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Atlantic Volunteer Engine Company (ME), and the Westchester County (NY) EMS Council; and has served on Advisory Committees for the International Swimming Hall of Fame and the American Red Cross Lifeguard Curriculum Development Team. He is also a member of the National Water Safety Congress, the United States Lifesaving Association, and the National Drowning Prevention Alliance.
Gerry's areas of expertise include Lifeguard Training, Management and Operations; Drowning and Aquatic Injury Prevention and Emergency Management; Aquatic Spinal Injury Prevention and Emergency Management; Escape and Rescue from Submerged Vehicles; Water Rescue, Ocean Rescue, and Swiftwater Rescue; Ice and Cold Water Rescue and Survival; and, the Planning for, Training for, and Managing Response to Water and Ice Rescue Emergencies.
Gerry regularly consults as a Forensics Expert in drowning and aquatic injury litigation. He will review and analyze Police and Fire Rescue Incident Reports; Hospital Emergency Records; Witness Statements; and Depositions; and will render opinions based on the industry's Standard of Care. He will generate reports of his opinions, and prior to the taking of his deposition and/or testimony at trial, will develop a comprehensive Powerpoint Presentation, as a demonstrative exhibit of his report and/or opinions in order to educate the judge and jury regarding the Standard of Care and whether or not that Standard of Care was breached causing or contributing to the incident. His opinions are always consistent with the principles and procedures advocated within his Water Rescue, Ice Rescue, and Lifeguard Training curriculums.
