Howard K. Steinman, M.D. serves as an independent dermatology expert witness and maintains a comprehensive medicolegal practice spanning the full spectrum of dermatology and dermatologic surgery. Since 2000, he has been retained in more than 75 cases, and his caseload is balanced, with 66% plaintiff and 34% defense. He is experienced in providing verbal testimony, having participated in thirteen depositions and nine trial testimonies.

Dr. Steinman is a board-certified dermatologist, fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, and cosmetic dermatologist with more than thirty-five years of active clinical experience. He transitioned from full-time clinical practice in 2022 to focus on specialized medical education and medicolegal consultation. He continues to teach dermatology residents at Campbell University and to instruct practicing dermatologists through advanced Mohs surgery training courses. His clinical background provides deep expertise in evaluating and managing complex adverse events associated with Mohs surgery, general dermatologic procedures, chemical peels, dermal fillers, and botulinum toxin injections.
PROFESSIONAL REPUTATION AND SCHOLARLY CONTRIBUTIONS
An accomplished author and lecturer, Dr. Steinman has co-authored two textbooks on Mohs surgery, published sixty peer-reviewed articles on dermatology and dermatologic surgery, and delivered more than two hundred twenty professional presentations nationally and internationally. In recognition of his career-long dedication to medical education, the American Academy of Dermatology honored him with a Presidential Citation for “Dedication as an educator of excellence of Mohs surgery.” Additionally, he was appointed an Honorary Lifetime Fellow with Distinction by the American Society for Mohs Surgery.
