James R. Jauchem (“Joe-shum”), PhD, is the principal of Forensic Pathophysiology, LLC. Dr. Jauchem received his doctorate degree in physiology from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. With 40 years of research experience in pathophysiology, his last 30 years were specifically related to conducted electrical weapons (including TASER® devices) and other potential non-lethal weapons (including acoustic devices, blunt-impact projectiles, and microwaves). He has performed original research studies and authored numerous articles, including critical reviews, in the following journals: Forensic Science International, Journal of Forensic Sciences, Journal of Forensic & Legal Medicine, American Journal of Forensic Medicine & Pathology, and Forensic Science, Medicine & Pathology. He was recently retained as expert witness in a capital murder case.
Other previous areas of expertise include radio-frequency radiation and altitude decompression sickness. He is one of the few experts to have worked at both NASA's Johnson Space Center and the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine. In all, Dr. Jauchem has published over 230 research publications, including over 110 peer-reviewed items (over 75 of those as sole or first author). He was previously Principal Scientific Editor for the National Institutes of Health Division of Research Resources. He retired from U.S. Air Force civil service in September 2014.
Dr. Jauchem will:
(1) Provide consultation services to law firms, criminal and civil, both plaintiff and defense; public agency defense.
(2) Analyze your records and help prepare you and your attorney for depositions and trial.
(3) Be candid in evaluating your potential cases and your prospects for success.
(4) Review opposing experts' opinions to see which issues require specific points on cross examination. Can assist counsel in preparing to cross-examine other witnesses.
(5) Be at trial to identify any misconceptions presented by opposing counsel (and can testify in court, if needed, in selected cases).
(6) Recommend other experts, if appropriate.
(7) Write comprehensive reports, as needed.
