Gang Expert Curriculum Vitae
Experience
While employed as a Gang Intervention Specialist I have worked with gang related youth and adults in Los Angeles County for approximately twenty years. I have experience working in many communities including, but not limited to, Watts, Compton, Long Beach, North, South, East and West Los Angeles County. My unique background includes both street and book-knowledge. I have been educated and mentored by gang members from various neighborhoods. My training was taught by credible organizations, including the Los Angeles City Fire Department and LA County Sheriffs. My experiences have involved working on the streets, in community schools, daily engagement with former and active gang members, teaching federal parolees, consulting and teaching in juvenile halls, county jails and probation schools.
As a Gang Expert I consult, investigate, research, analyze, and provide court testimony for gang related matters. I have worked on hundreds of cases. I attend workshops/ seminars, and meet regularly with present and former gang affiliates. In addition, I have on-going communication with law enforcement, and community members. I am a member of the Watts Gang Task Force, and attend Gang Task Force meetings in several communities. I remain current with gang trends, communication, and culture.
2008-present: My non-profit organization “Community Restoration Services” works in collaboration with “Parolees for Change”, a hardcore Gang Intervention program and peace negotiator. I am a community outreach specialist, and the director of services. We have been supported by “A Better L.A.”,/ Coach Pete Carroll, The County of Los Angeles, L.A. City Fire Dept., law enforcement, Los Angeles Housing Authority, “UJCC”, Al Wooten Heritage Center, Laurel Street Baptist Church and other churches, corporations, and politicians. My organization was selected by the Department of Justice, and the L.A.P.D. as a referred parolee reentry program.
2007: I earned my most recent Gang Intervention certificate, and certificate in “Crisis Intervention”, from the Los Angeles City Fire Department, and Maximum Force Enterprises.
2005-2008: I was employed with “Unity One” as a Gang Intervention Specialist, and community outreach worker. My primary duty was to over-see the peace squad leaders (all former gang members), and act as a liaison with the community and law enforcement. I also taught intervention and life skills courses for Federal Probation parolees.
2000: I earned a second Gang Intervention certificate with Amer-I-Can. This nationally renowned gang intervention course qualified me to facilitate in county jails and state prisons.
1997: I was first qualified, and appointed as a Gang Expert for the Superior Courts by the honorable Judge James Dunn. Since that time I have consulted, investigated, and testified on numerous gang cases. I am a qualified member of the Panel of Experts for the Los Angeles Superior Courts. I have both State and Federal case experience.
1994: I earned my first certification for Gang Intervention with Dr. Joseph Marshall's Street Soldiers program at the Omega Institute in San Francisco. This program is Nation wide and has been recognized in the media.
1993: I founded Community Restoration Services, Inc., which was created for gang involved youth. Our program works in conjunction with other gang intervention programs, some founded and employed by former gang members. Our services include hard-core street intervention, education, counseling, recreation, employment assistance, and social services.
