Larry M. Nahmias MD
Areas of Expertise: Addiction & Substance Abuse
I am in full time psychiatric private practice providing about 30 hours per week of therapy and medication management to my patients. I am a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and board certified in Forensic Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry and Pain Medicine. I graduated medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine, did a Pathology internship, worked as a general practitioner and completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Arizona in 1981. The focus of my practice is on persons with Addictions, mood disorders, PTSD, opiate abuse/dependence and chronic pain. My forensic practice is both for defense and plaintiff, focusing on individuals involved in civil litigation and addiction related criminal charges. I regularly perform forensic psychiatric IME's, FFD exams, Peer Reviews, Utilization Reviews and precertifications for various insurance carriers. My clients include the Texas Medical Board as well as private industry, insurance carriers, review companies, EAP's and attorneys. I have been deposed probably over 500 times and have testifiedd in court between 5 to 25 times. (Not including administrative law proceedings.) Also, I have special experience in assessing dangerousness in the workplace and hostage negotiations.
I see my responsibilities as an expert in court to defend and explain my opinions clearly based upon medical evidence and the facts of the case. I believe that everyone is best served by improving the quality and integrity of the expert witness, and to that extent, I do my best to hold to that ideal.
