Dr. Linda Austin has provided expert testimony in a variety of civil lawsuits, including pharmaceutical mislabeling (Zyprexa) and medical products defect (silicone breast implants); class action (asbestos); insurance defense; testamentary capacity and undue influence; psychiatric malpractice; and child custody. Dr. Austin attended Stanford and Duke Universities and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Zoology. She received her MD from Duke University School of Medicine,and her psychiatric training from Georgetown University. She served on the faculty of the Medical University of South Carolina for 23 years, becoming a full professor and associate dean. She was chosen by the American Psychiatric Association as the feature psychiatrist in the award winning film, "Depression: The Storm Within" and was also featured in the National Library of Medicine travelling exhibit "Changing the Face of Medicine." Dr. Austin is Board Certified in Psychiatry and served as a Senior Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for a decade. Dr. Austin is best known for her ability to present complex medical topics for the lay public in an clear, comprehensible way. She hosted the nationally syndicated public radio program "What's On Your Mind?" for thirteen years. She has written three books and was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show. She has authored scientific publications about anxiety and depressive disorders, produced the 960-title podcast library for MUSC, and hosted and produced a morning radio segment about preventive health, "An Ounce of Prevention." Dr. Austin has several decades of clinical experience treating adult patients with a broad variety of problems including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, mood and anxiety disorder, trauma, and family conflict.
