Marc H. Shomer, MD, PhD, QME is a board-certified ophthalmologist and cataract surgery specialist providing independent ophthalmic analysis, medical-record review, and expert testimony for attorneys, insurers, claims professionals, and government agencies nationwide. He has served as an ophthalmology expert witness for both plaintiff and defense since 2012, and is formally credentialed by the State of California as a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME), serving as an Agreed Medical Evaluator (AME) when selected by the parties.

QUALIFICATIONS
Dr. Shomer is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (2011, recertified 2021). He earned his MD and PhD (Neuroscience) through the NIH-funded Medical Scientist Training Program at UCLA and completed his ophthalmology residency at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, consistently ranked among the top ophthalmology programs in the nation. He serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where he has trained resident surgeons in basic and advanced cataract surgery since 2009. He remains in active surgical practice, performing cataract and anterior-segment surgery weekly — his opinions reflect current, hands-on clinical experience, not retired practice.
