Patrick Michael O’Leary, MBA, BSEE, CISSP, CEH, CHFI - Internet Expert Witness
Areas of Expertise: Internet
My name is Patrick Michael O'Leary, and I am a serial internet entrepreneur. I have successfully founded a multitude of businesses in the field of business technology. My twenty-five-plus years of experience has exposed me to various areas within the enterprise, including but not limited to Computer Programming, Business, and Cyber Security. On occasion, I work as an Internet Litigation Consultant for law firms where I provide Internet Expert Witness services. With my multi-faceted approach to the industry, I am confident that I can assist you in navigating your next case!
I was introduced to information technology in 1987 during my time at Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, New York, where I studied Electrical Engineering. Since then, I have collected over 30 years of experience where I have launched various businesses across a multitude of industries. This collective experience has granted me a foundation in which I have successfully implemented my plethora of projects with success. More specifically, I have worked in many fields such as internet and computer programming, administration of these programs, transportation, and telecommunications. My experience has supplied me with work over the country and international waters. I have carried out projects for American Airlines, Santa Fe Rail Roads, NEC, Ansett Airlines, and many more. My victorious career has integrated me headfirst in marketing, finance, acquisitions, internet maintenance and development, sales, and all of the technical aspects necessary to construct and publish all of the companies and businesses that I have worked under and have owned.
I have approached these fields with confidence by leveraging my experience on the Internet and Social Networking in online business that initially started as a hobby in the 1980s. Little did I know that this “fun activity” would launch me into my career, where I founded a social network platform called MatchMaker.com. I have had the opportunity to self-fund this platform until early 1999, as this site was profitable and did not require venture capital. I quickly served as the CEO and sole majority shareholder of this social networking site. I have diligently led this company to develop at an 8% growth rate (minimum) per month, designating MatchMaker.com as the largest online dating platform during this time. I worked solely on this project from 1995 to 1999, where I officially established a functioning enterprise that employed over 30 people. As a team, we were able to garner over $7 million in earnings annually. Over the years, this expanded to more than 120 persons working across eight departments. This online platform reached over 230 million views per month, with over 4 million registered users. The exponential growth we saw provided the millions of dollars we were able to generate per annum. This astounding growth is different from many online enterprises today as our growth had been achieved through internal revenues— not loaned or infused funds. In a competitive market of online businesses, MatchMaker.com became the most used dating network on the internet and competed with popular sites, including AOL, Yahoo Personals, and Match.com. Our company was able to sell to Lycos in mid-2000 for $45 million, despite the “Internet Bubble” crash during 2000. The five years I have spent curating this online business have provided me with experience across multiple fields that proved necessary to expand this company.
Having sold my first successful online company, I went right back to work. I began to think of other businesses to launch in which I would apply my newfound knowledge and refined expertise in the field of internet technology. I came to focus on the industry of Expert Witness and Litigation Support. What made me choose this business was the potential to establish my presence and flourish in a growing industry. As per the UBS, the expert witness industry in the United States is a 7 to 10 billion dollar industry space per annum.
Additionally, having been established for more than 230 years, this business is currently growing at a minimum of 20% per year. The industry space of non-litigation business-advisory is much larger. Coming from a background of online dating, it occurred to me that many internet practices, such as job search, stocks, travel, etc., can be viewed from a matchmaking lens. I concluded I would be able to successfully apply this perspective in the Expert Witness field to match legal professionals and experts across various fields. If a lawyer needs an expert to assist them in litigation, the lawyer must search and encounter an expert in the desired field who has the foundational knowledge to support them in their case. I knew I would be able to take my background and mold it to fit this ever-growing business. From there, I would be able to expand my work and build my network to provide success to both my clients and me.
This experience led me to where I am today. Currently, I am the owner of ExpertWitness.com. Like my previous online dating platform, I have built and integrated this network, carefully directing traffic to my site domestically and internationally. Beginning in 1996, I have now taken this platform and self-funded it to progress the website to where it is today.
My craft and credibility allowed me to work as an Internet Business and Technology Expert Witness in which I have provided support in cases consisting of Real Estate, Aerospace, Intellectual Property, Security, Oil and Gas, and many more. Additionally, I have worked as a defense expert and plaintiff for many large companies such as eHarmony, Twitter, Yahoo, and Google. This work has brought me to State/Federal jurisdictions nationwide for civil and criminal litigation.
With my expertise and multi-faceted approach to the industry, I assure you that I would be able to provide you with the necessary support and success needed for your needs.
