Richard R. Ruth, P.E., is an expert in reading and interpreting automotive event data recorder information in the context of traffic crash reconstruction. He performs event data recorder accuracy research and publishes peer reviewed scientific papers on EDR's, prepares prosecutors and attorneys and testifies in Frye and Daubert hearings on EDR data admissibilty, and testifies regarding applying EDR data to crash reconstructions. He also teaches EDR imaging and analysis to law enforcement through the Institute of Police Technology and Management, a division of the University of North Florida, and private reconstructionists through the Society of Automotive Engineers. He also assists in getting manufacturers to read EDR's not supported by the Bosch Crash Data Retreival System. He is qualified to do complete crash reconstruction but normally limits his practice to specializing in the application of EDR data to the reconstruction.
Mr. Ruth also analyzes airbag and seat belt performance in product liability lawsuits, but limits his practice to manufacturer defense or defense of nonmanufacturers. He has extensive experience in airbag deployment thresholds and improper repair of airbag systems.
