Robert N. Taub, MD PhD FACP

Robert N. Taub MD (Yale ), PhD(University of London UK) is an internationally recognized oncology clinician and researcher in several fields, most recently malignant mesothelioma and sarcoma. He founded the Columbia Mesothelioma Center in 2002 within the CUMC Department of Medicine and directed it through 2015, when it was joined with the division of Medical Oncology in the Cancer Center. In that capacity he developed and implemented collaborative interdepartmental clinical and translational research projects (Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Radiology, GYN, Public Health) dealing with molecular characterization, clinical and cellular intracavitary cisplatin drug pharmacokinetics, innovative techniques of surgical treatment, novel approaches to radiological peritoneographic disease assessment, QOL assessment, and Phase II and III clinical trials of drug treatment in over 200 annotated and personally-cared-for patients with peritoneal mesothelioma, the largest such database. Prior to the establishment of the independently-funded Mesothelioma Center, Dr. Taub held directorships in the Columbia Comprehensive Cancer Center (Deputy Director, Cancer Control; Deputy Director, Clinical Research and Patient Care; Co-Director; Acting Director), and before that had prior continual NIH support for over 25 years for studies in organ transplantation, lymphocyte kinetics, leukemia antigens, and anthracycline cellular pharmacokinetics. Dr. Taub has held key administrative and honorary positions at Mount Sinai School of Medicine NY, at the Medical College of Virginia, and the American Cancer Society. He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards and an author of over 150 publications. He remains an active clinical oncologist and investigator, board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, oncology, and allergy-immunology. He has reviewed cases and testified in court for both plaintiffs and defendants as a scientific expert and regarding care and treatment.
