Dr. Stephen Falk practices medicine, teaches and lectures at Cornell Scott Hill Health Center, Yale School of Medicine, and University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He holds appointments in the Departments of Surgery and Anatomy at Yale School of Medicine and Departments of Surgery and Cell Biology at University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Previously he served as Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery and Family Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, Rochester, NY.

Dr. Falk received a bachelor's degree with honors, Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, in chemistry and biology from Tufts University and an MD from New York University School of Medicine, did post-doctoral studies in biostatistics and epidemiology at the University of North Carolina, School of Public Health, Chapel Hill, NC, and resident training in otolaryngology- head and neck surgery at Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, CA.

Dr. Falk has clinical experience in a wide range of medical and surgical aspects of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery including thyroid, parathyroid, head and neck cancer, otology, nose and sinus, sleep apnea, facial plastic surgery, maxillofacial trauma, cranial nerves and others.

His interests in patient care, research and teaching (to attending physicians, residents-in-training and medical students) have included:

Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

  1. cancer of head and neck
  2. techniques of thyroid surgery
  3. complications of thyroid surgery including injury to the vagus nerve and its branches
  4. management of the recurrent laryngeal nerve in suspected and proven thyroid cancer
  5. hypothermia causes temporary post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia
  6. hypocalcemia, hypoparathyroidism and calcium metabolism before, during, and after thyroidectomy
  7. diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of thyroid disease including hyperthyroidism
  8. radiation-induced thyroid cancer
  9. balancing risks vs rewards during thyroidectomy
  10. molecular genetics and clinical management of multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes
  11. use of calcitonin in evaluation of thyroid nodules

  1. General neuroanatomy and neurologic function
  2. Cranial Nerves- neuroanatomy, physiology, and diseases
