I am a licensed attorney (inactive status) and a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Texas. I have worked in public accounting since 1982. I am a currently a shareholder with the public accounting firm of Huselton Morgan Maultsby, a Dallas based accounting firm with 4 offices located across the Dallas Forth Worth metroplex. I am located in the Dallas, Texas office and provide traditional tax and accounting services. Our web site, www.hmpc.com has additional information about the firm. I am credentialed by:

  • the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (hereinafter referred to as the “AICPA”) as Accredited in Business Valuation (“ABV”);
  • the American Society of Appraisers as an Accredited Senior Appraiser (“ASA”);
  • the Institute of Business Appraisers as a Certified Business Appraiser (“CBA”); and
  • the AICPA as Certified in Financial Forensics (“CFF”).

The subject matter of these certifications and accreditations is “business valuation” and economic analysis.

Approximately half of my practice involves providing traditional tax and accounting services to small and medium sized closely held companies. The other half of my practice involves performing business valuation and litigation support services related to economic damage calculations, lost profits analysis and valuation of closely held businesses. The business valuation work is performed for a variety of reasons such as; estate, gift and income tax planning and compliance, equitable division of property pursuant to divorce actions, shareholder disputes, employee stock ownership plans (ESOP's), buy — sell agreements, civil litigation, and actual transactions.

A substantial part of the business valuation work I perform results in deposition or Court testimony. I have also undergone training by the American Arbitration Association in Mediation Skills and, as part of my business valuation and litigation support services practice, and I have served as a mediator in various matters related to business valuation of closely held businesses numerous times. The litigation support services usually involve quantifying economic damages or lost profits in litigation related settings. I have performed over 800 valuations of closely held businesses during the last thirty years. At least half of the valuation work that I do is for estate and gift tax planning or compliance. I have also served as an expert witness in over eighty (80) cases during the past eighteen years and testified over 20 times.
