In 1997 I obtained a doctorate (PhD) in Horticulture from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. I also have a Master of Science (MSc) in Horticulture from The University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Plant Science/Pomology from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY which I received in 1988 and 1986, respectively.  I also have two associate degrees one in forestry and the other in agriculture. I achieved the rank of full professor at Ohio State University, Columbus, OH where I also served as the State Specialist for nursery and landscape. Before Ohio State University I was a Regional Specialist in nursery and landscape at Oregon State University, Aurora, OR at the rank of Assistant Professor. Before the two OSUs, I was the Nursery Provincial Specialist in British Columbia and before that Alberta. My CV (available on request) lists 59 court cases where I have been retained as an expert since 2015, including four trial testimonies and 13 depositions.  I am currently employed as an independent researcher, Mathers Environmental Science Services, LLC, Gahanna, OH conducting efficacy and phytotoxicity trials, fungicide phytotoxicity trials and fertilizer trials for major chemical companies, IR-4, and USDA Specialist Crop Block Grants via Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association. I have presented over 400 in-state, out-of-state and out-of-country presentations at conferences and written more than 380 trade and journal articles.  In addition to my core subjects of plant science, plant stress physiology, weed science, herbicide modes of action, agriculture and horticulture, irrigation and plant nutrition, I have served as an expert in fungicides, insecticides, pesticide residues on cannabis, viticulture, tree nut crops, bioplastic mulch, stormwater retention pond, onion seed, turf, corn, soybeans, potatoes, sorghum, carrots and contaminated site investigations.
